Buildings have been insulated with EPS/XPS insulation materials since the 1970s. These insulation materials have a limited lifespan. For this reason, more and more of these insulation materials are currently being replaced or the entire buildings are being demolished.
Current methods dismantle the insulation as a composite (i.e. insulation, plaster, reinforcing mesh and plugs). This makes it almost impossible to recycle the raw materials, as they would have to be separated afterwards before they could be recycled. The aim of this project is to develop a process that removes the materials from the façade on the construction site, sorted by type, to enable the materials to be recycled. This should also reduce costs for demolition companies, as they will no longer produce hazardous waste with the new process.
